Brest station

Located on the border between the European Union and the CIS countries, Brest is an ideal place for a train trip. The train of Warsaw by Polish railways runs 3-4 times a day and costs 150zł. You can also take a train from Warsaw to Terespol just before the border for 40-60zł then take the inexpensive commuter train which runs twice a day to cross the border. Most of the other trains connecting theEurope and the Russia, stop in Brest.

The connections with other cities in Belarus by BZD are numerous, for Minsk, there are up to twenty departures per day one trip costs around 30,000 BYR.

Brest is also the starting point for several long-distance trains to the east. There is a departure every day for Kiev , Moscow and Saint PETERSBOURG while other destinations such as Astana , Irkutsk and Volgograd only connected 3-4 times a week. 1-2 times a week, there is a connection for Murmansk, the capital of the Arctic. In the other direction, there are several trains in the direction of Sochi and other resorts along the Black Sea. Most of these trains are operated by Russian Railways.

When leaving Belarus, be aware that customs control at the station is not very easy. About an hour before the train departs, people wait along the railing near glass walls that seem to open up to a rather bland and unused empty room. They look a bit like people waiting for arrivals at the airport, except it's not clear who they are waiting for. In fact, they are waiting for the customs office to open. If you are leaving Belarus, it is best to join the queue a good time before your train departs. Arriving 10-15 min before the train leaves, chances are great that the train will leave without you, not because the queue is too long, but simply because the rules are strict.

  • 3 Terespol / Brest  – Close to the city center.
  • 4 Kozlovichi / Kukuryki  – On the M1 /E30 at the northern bypass of the city.

There are a total of 6 barriers with controls to pass to get to the other side of the border. It takes about an hour for the controls if it is not crowded and you don't have to wait your turn.

Walk

It is not allowed to cross the border on foot but if you are in Terespol and want to go to Brest you can walk to the border post and "hitchhike" in one of the cars that is at the front of the line. Some will even be happy to take you through, as they may "affect" certain goods like you owned by customs. Some may ask for a modest payment of EUR 5 or more.

Fortress of Brest
  • 1 Fortress  – A massive fortification complex built in the mid-19th century by the Empire Russian. In November 1918, the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was signed there. In June 1941, there were several days of heavy fighting between the Wehrmacht and the Red Army and thousands of Soviet soldiers became prisoners of war and more than 2,000 were killed. After the war, the incident was named “heroic defense of the fortress of Brest”. In 1965, the fortress was awarded the title of "Hero Fortress" and a huge propaganda complex was erected. To have ! The price for access to the complex, the Museum of the Heroic Defense of the Fortress of Brest (where you will only see and hear the official story, none of the prisoners of war, not a word about the Holocaust , but a lot of armed heroes) is around 10,000 BYR. Walking within the walls of this great fortification is a moving experience that gives a good idea of the hardships encountered by the forces which were besieged there. The territory of the fortress is where the ancient city of Brest was born, in the archaeological museum, you can see the results of the excavations. The history of the Fortress of Brest is complicated, as you will see, and worth discovering.
