Brig-Glis (often just Brig) is a city and an important traffic junction in Canton Valais in the Switzerland.
Here trains come from the Lötschberg base tunnel from Bern and from the Simplon tunnel Domodossola at. Various trains of the Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn (MGB) and post buses also run from here to the surrounding regions.
background
The community consists of the four districts Brig and Glis as well as the thermal spa Brigerbad and the village Chamois. Brig was founded by the Bishop of Sion in 1215 and has had historical market rights ever since, which is why the city center with its historic houses looks like a medieval old town. In 1973 the four districts merged to form today's municipality. Brig-Glis is located on the Saltina river, which formed the old border between Brig and Glis and flows into the Rhône in the municipality.
