background
Bräunlingen was first mentioned in a document in 802. The place was fortified with a wall under the rule of the Zähringer. In 1305 Bräunlingen became part of Upper Austria, and in 1368 it was granted city rights by the Habsburgs. In 1806 Bräunlingen became part of the Grand Duchy of Baden. Since the municipal reform in 1971/72, the formerly independent municipalities of Döggingen, Mistelbrunn, Unterbränd and Waldhausen have belonged to Bräunlingen.
The neighboring towns Donaueschingen and Hüfingen belong to the Schwarzwald-Baar district, the neighboring one Loeffingen is located in the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald.
