The city of Hüfingen was first mentioned in a document in 1083.
The formerly independent communities Behla, Fürstenberg, Hausen vor Wald, Mundelfingen and Swamp Ears now belong to the city.
Neighboring communities are Bräunlingen, Donaueschingen, Geisingen, Blumberg, Wutach and Loeffingen.

By train
The 1 Hüfingen station is on the Höllentalbahn. The S-Bahn trains on this route stop here Freiburg in Breisgau Via Donaueschingen to Villingen. Since 2003 the 3 ring pull Hüfingen every hour with Bräunlingen, Donaueschingen and Villingen-Schwenningen.
Public transport is available by bus to the districts of Behla, Fürstenberg, Hausen vor Wald and Sumpfohren.
