I knock is a center of the Molise.

Geographical notes

OnMolise Apennines of the Central Molise, is 14 km from Campobasso, 17 from Bojano, 37 from Trivento, 44 from Isernia.

Background

During the Norman domination the town was a fief of the Counts of Molise, who delegated the possession to a local family who adopted the name as a denomination. The D’Alife, Cantelmo, Galeotai Gaetani and Caracciolo families then took over.

In 1625 the town came to the marquises of Ripalimosani who in 1630 passed it to the Parisi. Finally the Cavaniglia family held it from 1647 until the abolition of feudalism.

How to orient yourself

Busso develops on the top of a hill, like many towns in the Molise Apennines, near Mount Vairano which rises to the east of the town.

By car

  • from the north exit a Termoli, follow the direction Campobasso taking the SS 87 and the SS 647, turn in the direction of Busso (SP 42).
  • from the south continue on the A16 motorway, follow the direction Benevento, in Benevento continue on the SS 88, exit at Campobasso, take the SS 87 in the direction of Campobasso/Isernia, continue on the SS 17, take the SS 647 in the direction of Termoli, turn onto the SP 49 in the direction of Baranello and follow the signs for Busso.
  • From Termoli take the SS 16, continue on the SS 87, continue on the SS 647 in the direction of Campobasso, turn in the direction of Busso (SP 42).

What see

  • Church of San Lorenzo. Parish church, it was probably built in the 15th century and remodeled in the Renaissance period. It was rebuilt in Baroque style around 1728 and restored after the earthquake of 1805.
The church has a single nave, with a simple gabled façade and a neoclassical bell tower, with a spire and an upper lantern that acts as a break between the pinnacle and the roof of the belfry.
  • Palazzo Ducale Venditti. Busso originally in medieval times, it had city walls and city gates. Today the former castle remains, now the ducal palace.
There are traces of towers from the Angevin period. The palace, belonging to the Venditti family (18th century), is rectangular with late Baroque decorations.
  • Church of Santa Maria in Valle. It is located near the fountain of Sant'Onofrio in the highest part of Busso. It was restored in 1870 after the great earthquake, and today it is a destination for pilgrims.
It has a single nave and is in neoclassical style.
  • Archaeological area of ​​Monte Vairano. Is located between I knock and Baranello and shows the remains of a Samnite settlement with walls that enclosed an area of ​​about 50 hectares. It shows the signs of three doors.
The inhabited area revealed the existence of residences and production and commercial activities of an urban type; one house in particular 'there house of LN which takes its name from the letters engraved on a wall, has been the subject of careful study and investigation.
It has supplied in quantity furnishings, plates, oil lamps, teganmi, loom weights, skins for the preservation of foodstuffs.
Some constructions of the settlement then show a structure of considerable size
