The south-eastern region of the China has always been eyeing abroad. A thousand years ago, this region was the main maritime terminus of the Silk Road. It is still today one of the most important centers of commercial exchanges and most of the Chinese emigrants in the rest of the world originate from this region.

Politically, Hong Kong and Macao are special administrative regions of China with a capitalist economy and a separate political system, summed up by the phrase: “One country, two systems”.
