Guangdong is a province of the Southeast China.
To know
Guangdong is now one of the richest provinces in the China thanks to the establishment of special economic zones that have attracted foreign investments especially from the neighboring area Hong Kong.
When to go
From July to October it is easy to run into some typhoons, which is why the best month for a visit is November or alternatively the period from March to April. In fact, May marks the rainy season which lasts until October.

East Guangdong - Eastern coastal area of the Pearl River Delta which includes the prefectures of Shanwei, Jieyang, Shantou and Chaozhou.
Northern Guangdong - The inner part of Guangdong which includes the prefectures of Yunfu, Zhaoqing, Qingyuan, Shaoguan, Heyuan and Meizhou.
Pearl River Delta - "Workshop of the world"; this is how one of the main production areas on the planet is called. Guangdong produces a third of China's total exports and most of these come from the Delta region. The area from Shenzhen to Guangzhou is essentially a massive industrial city. The region includes the prefectures of Jiangmen, Foshan, Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Dongguan, Shenzhen, and Huizhou.
West Guangdong - The western coastal area of the Pearl River Delta which includes the prefectures of Zhanjiang, Maoming and Yangjiang.
Urban centers
- Canton (Guangzhou) - Capital of the province.
- Dongguan - Industrial center.
- Qingyuan - A center frequented by rafting lovers.
- Shantou (汕头; Shàntóu) - North of Hong Kong, Shantou is an industrial center in the SEZ (Special Economic Zones).
- Shaoguan (韶关; Sháoguān) - In the far north of Guangdong, home to an important temple.
- Shenzhen - Just north of Hong Kong, Shenzen is a place in full development thanks to the establishment of the Special Economic Zone.
- Zhanjiang (湛江; zhànjiāng) - Active port and shopping center on the Leizhou Peninsula.
- Zhongshan - Birthplace of Sun Yatsen, father of revolutionary China, Zhongshan is now a large industrial city of 2,500,000 inhabitants.
- Zhuhai - Another center of a Special Economic Zone, Zhuhai is on the border with the former Portuguese colony of Macau.
