Blekinge is a county of the Götaland in Sweden.
To know
Blekinge was the name of a historical province (landskap) of southern Sweden, now absorbed with the almost coincident county. It borders on the Småland, the Scania, the Kronoberg County, the Kalmar County and the Baltic Sea. The name derives from the adjective bleke, which corresponds to the marine term "calm". The Latinized version is Blekingia.
Geographical notes

Background
Originally the Blekinge belonged to the crown of Denmark together with the provinces of Scania (Skåne) e Halland, which formed the eastern part of the Danish kingdom (the so-called Terra Scania). The centers that had the status of cities were Karlshamn (from 1664), Karlskrona (1680), Ronneby (1387), Sölvesborg (1445) Of these cities, Karlskrona was for nearly 300 years the main Swedish naval base, and in 1998 it was declared by theUNESCO World Heritage Site.
Spoken languages
In Blekinge, a variety of the Skanska dialect (Blekingska) is spoken, which was previously considered an Eastern dialect of the language. Danish but today it is considered a southern dialect of Swedish.
