Czersk is a historical place in Poland in the voivodeship Mazovia. The place is on the Vistula and is known for the Czersk Castle, which was the seat of the Dukes of Mazovia in the Middle Ages.

background

The Czersk Castle dates back to the 11th century. It was mentioned for the first time in 1224 and served Konrad von Masowien in the first half of the 13th century as a prison for his rivals for senior positions in Poland. He stopped here among other things Henry I the Bearded of Silesia and Boleslaus V. the humble captured by Lesser Poland and Sandomir. Janusz I the Elder from Mazovia had the castle significantly expanded to become his main resident in the late 14th century. From 1526 the castle belonged to the Polish kings and Sigismund II August left it to his mother Bona Sforza of Milan, who expanded it in 1547 in the Renaissance style. In 1656 the castle and the place were destroyed by Swedish troops. In the middle of the 18th century, attempts were made to restore the castle. The work was finally stopped by the Third Partition of Poland and the Prussians had parts of the castle demolished again, which has since fallen into disrepair. The place successively in 1795 to Prussia, 1807 to the Duchy of Warsaw and in 1815 to the Russian Congress Poland. During the First World War, the castle was further damaged in the German-Russian fighting in 1915. After the First World War, Czersk became Polish again.

The road network around Czersk is well equipped, the place is on the Vistula. The journey from Germany is over Poses and Łódź possible.
