Desenzano, officially Desenzano del Garda is a popular one Italian City on Garda lake and belongs to the province of Brescia in the Lombardy.
background
It is the largest city on Lake Garda and is located on a wide bay in the southwest of the lake. Desenzano has been an important trading center since Roman times. In the Polada peat pit about 5 kilometers away, prehistoric pile dwellings and a special type of handle vessel were found that are typical of this culture. Because of the site, this culture was called "Polada Culture" designated.
Under the Venetian rule, the place became one of the most important marketplaces in Padania. The grain price set here was not only valid for Lombardy, but also in the Treviso Mark and in Romagna. Even today there is a big weekly market every Tuesday.

Desenzano is a traffic stop on the route Milan - Venice. Occasional express trains ("Frecciarossa") and regional trains stop there. The 1 Desenzano del Garda / Sirmione train station is a good one kilometer south of the center and 1.5 km from the ferry terminal.

The Desenzano exit of the A4 / E70 (Milan-Verona) is around 2 km outside the city.

The Piazza Malvezzi at the old port, is surrounded by an ancient archway, and in the center of the square is the monument of Angela Merici, the founder of the Order of St. Ursula.
- 1 Santa Maria Maddalena. The church was built from 1586 in place of a previous building. In each of the three ships there are very beautiful paintings, including the one Last supperCreated by Giambattista Tiepolo or his son Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo.

The Giovanni Rambotti Museum is named after the discoverer of the Polada finds. It shows the many finds that were found in the peat pit of Polada, which lies between Desenzano and Lonato and in the Lavagnone area. It was a prehistoric pile dwelling settlement, which was 5 kilometers outside of today's center.
