Geographical notes
Devon County is one of the largest counties in theEngland. It is bathed to the north by the Celtic Sea, to the east it borders Somerset and Dorset, to the south it overlooks the English Channel and to the west it borders the Cornwall.
The south central area of the county is dominated by the Dartmoor granite plateau. The highest point, whose summit is called High Willhays, reaches a height of 621 m a.s.l. Dartmoor, which is protected by a national park, has typical moorland vegetation. Numerous rivers descend from the plateau, among which the main ones are: Torridge, Taw, Teign, Bovey, Dart, Avon, Plym and Tavy.
Both the south and north coasts of Devon are high and rocky, with few beaches, and indented with deep coves.
