Caldas Department is a department of the Andean region of the Colombia.

The Caldas department is rich in natural and mineral resources.
It owes its name to the patriot Francisco José de Caldas.
Geographical notes
The department of Caldas is bordered to the north by the Department of Antioquia, to the east with that of Cundinamarca, south with the departments of Tolima is Risaralda and to the west again with the department of Risaralda.
The territory is mainly mountainous. The mountainous reliefs of the Central and Western Cordillera rise there. The Cauca river flows between the two mountain ranges. To the east, beyond the Central Cordillera, the territory slopes down towards the valley of the Magdalena river which marks the eastern border. The capital Manizales it is located in the Rio Chinchiná valley.
