Cesar Department is a department of the Andean region of the Colombia.

Geographical notes
The Cesar department is bordered to the north by the department of La Guajira, east with the state Venezuelan of Zulia and the department of Norte de Santander, south with the Santander department and to the west with the departments of Bolívar is Magdalena.
The territory of the department is characterized to the north by the reliefs of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and along the eastern border by the foothills of the Sierra de Perij. The rest of the territory is flat, crossed by the Magdalena River on the western border with the Bolívar department and the Cesar river which flows into the 310 km² lake basin of Ciènaga de Zapatosa.
When to go
In the flat area, the climate is hot and dry. In mountainous areas, rainfall is more consistent.
