Geographical notes

Reinickendorf occupies the far northwest of the Berlin metropolitan area and still has a rural character. Its territory is in fact characterized by extensive woods and lakes. Densely populated neighborhoods are limited to the borders with the central neighborhood of Wedding. In Reinickendorf the large residential complex known as the White City was also built between 1929 and 1931 (Weiße Stadt) and subsequently, between 1963 and 1974, the Marca district (Märkisches Viertel), inhabited by 30,000 people. Elsewhere, scattered single-family villas predominate, taking on luxury characters in the Hermsdorf district and above all in Frohnau.

The Reinickendorf district It borders to the south-west with the district of Spandau, to the south with the districts of Charlottenburg and the central ones of Wedding and Gesundbrunnen, to the east with the district of Pankow. To the north and northwest the district is entirely surrounded by the federal state of Brandenburg.

Neighborhoods

Reinickendorf - The neighborhood on the border with Wedding which gave its name to the entire district.
Tegel - The district where the international airport is located and the lake of the same name, the largest in Berlin after the Müggelsee. Tegel also features tourist attractions such as the lakeside promenade and the castle of the same name.
Konradshöhe - It is located on the east bank of the Havel River and faces a short stretch of Lake Tegel to the south. Konradshöhe is nestled in the woods and has partly retained its village characteristics. The Havel is navigable and mini-cruises are organized on its course. It is also connected by ferries to Spandau, across the river.
Heiligensee - The neighborhood on the banks of the Havel River. It is famous for the landscapes of sand dunes formed at the end of the last ice age.
Frohnau - The northernmost district of Berlin has just 17,000 inhabitants. The built-up area is centered around the train station.
Hermsdorf - It extends over the lake of the same name dotted with islands and between extensive peat bogs and the Albtalweg nature reserve, the subject of guided tours. In its territory there is also a smaller lake, the Waldsee, of glacial origin.
      Waidmannslust
Lübars - Even today Lübars is a village of 5,000 inhabitants surrounded by nature. There is the amusement park of the same name on an artificial hill of 85 m. with halfpipe, ski and toboggan runs, as well as for bicycles.
Wittenau - A neighborhood of factories, especially weapons, dismantled after 1945 by the French and Russians who reassembled them in their respective countries of origin. Today Wittenau is a residential neighborhood with terraced houses.
Märkisches Viertel - Built between 1963 and 1974 to house the inhabitants of Kreuzberg and the Wedding, evicted following urban regeneration programs.
Borsigwalde - It takes its name from Borsig, one of the most famous German mechanical companies. At the end of the 19th century, the company inaugurated a new plant for the production of locomotives in Tegel but given the shortage of houses, it created a new neighborhood for its workers. The houses were spared from the bombings of World War II and today they are a protected asset.
