By train
Dollnstein has a train station on the route Munich–Ingolstadt–Treuchtlingen–Nuremberg. Regional trains from Munich (travel time 1:35 hours), Ingolstadt (30–35 minutes) and Treuchtlingen (15 minutes) stop every hour. A regional train comes from Nuremberg every two hours (1:10 hours). The closest ICE train station is Ingolstadt, and long-distance trains also stop occasionally in Treuchtlingen.
In the street
Dollnstein is on the state roads 2047 and 2230 and between Treuchtlingen, Eichstatt, Weissenburg and Neuburg on the Danube. There is a connection to federal highways 9 km to the northeast, at Eichstätt, to the B13 (Würzburg – Ansbach – Ingolstadt – Munich) and 17 km to the east, at Treuchtlingen, to the B2 (Nuremberg – Augsburg). The nearest motorway junction is Altmuehltal on the A9 (Nuremberg – Munich).
By bicycle
The Altmühl cycle path leads through Dollnstein. It is 28 km from Treuchtlingen to the north-west, 20 km from Pappenheim, and 16 km from Eichstätt to the south-east.
Furthermore, the Amper-Altmühl cycle path through the Urdonautal in 23 km from Rennertshofen on the Danube to Dollnstein.
Tourist Attractions
The picturesque market town, situated in the valley of the Altmühltal and Urdonautal, captivates with its preserved late medieval city wall.
It is worth seeing 1 Castle with its building fabric dating back to the 11th century. The information center is located in an outbuilding of the castle from 1445.
Some of the medieval houses have the Schlossfels or the Kirchenberg as a back wall.
Those interested in art will enjoy the Gothic frescoes in the catholic choir 2 Parish Church of St. Peter and Paul.

Dollnstein lies in the middle of the Altmuehltal nature park. You can do this well on a bike tour on the Altmühltal cycle path, a canoe tour on the Altmühl or hikes along the 200 km long Altmühltal-Panoramaweg.
