Egypt - a country located in the North-East Africa with the Sinai Peninsula in the west Asia.
Characteristic
Geography
The area of Egypt is located in the territory of Northeast Africa and partly on the Sinai Peninsula in Asia. Egypt is located adjacent to countries such as Sudan (South), Libya (west) i Israel (East). The territory of the republic was divided into 4 regions: Western Desert, Arabian (Eastern) Desert, Delta, Nile Valley and Sinai Peninsula. The Nile is the only river that crosses Egypt, it is 6,671 km long. Important regions are the valley and the Nile delta, the smallest of the separated regions, but their population is 98% of the country's population.
Climate
In Egypt, an extremely dry tropical climate prevails. Annual rainfall generally does not exceed several dozen millimeters. For this reason, most of the population lives in areas in the Nile delta and valley. There is a riverside oasis by the river, the length of which is less than 3 thousand meters. kilometers. For millennia, an artificial irrigation system has been created in Egypt, significantly increasing the area of arable land. The irrigation system was expanded in 1970, when a dam (Great Dam), an artificial reservoir (Lake Nasser) and a hydropower plant were built in Aswan.
fauna and Flora
The desert climate of Egypt makes the flora very poor. Lush vegetation is limited only to the valley and delta of the Nile and cities where it has the character of urban greenery.
There is a great variety of animals in Egypt. Species such as the Dorcas gazelle and mountain sheep live there, which can only be found in a small area of south-west Egypt. In the desert, species typical of this region, such as the desert jumper and the fenek (desert fox), are found. Scorpions are also common. Dangerous animals in Egypt include spotted snakes and the cobras that live in agricultural areas. Rodents are a scourge in Egypt, and they reproduce rapidly. There are also about 150 species of birds in Egypt.
Society
Egypt is the most populous Arab country and the third most populous country in Africa. The vast majority of the population is Arab Egyptians - Fellahs (almost 90% of the population). Apart from them, Egypt has about 8 million Copts - Christians, who are descendants of the people living in Egypt long before the Muslim conquest. Copts constitute about 10% of the entire local population. Their characteristic feature is a tattooed - usually on the hand - cross.
