Herculaneum is a city of Campania.
To know
World famous for Archaeological excavations of the city Roman, destroyed like the neighbor Pompeii from the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD The remains of the Roman city have been declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Founded according to the legend by Hercules, until the sixties it was called Resina. The stretch of the Corso Resina that from the archaeological excavations reaches up to Greek's tower it is called the "Golden Mile", due to the splendid 18th century villas lined up on its sides.
From Herculaneum starts the road that leads to the Gran Cono del Vesuvius.

- From 1st April to 31st October: Herculaneum, Oplontis and Stabia: 8.30am - 7.30pm (last admission 6.00pm). From 1 November to 31 March: Herculaneum, Oplontis and Sabia: 8.30 - 17.00 (last admission 15.30). They returned the remains of the ancient city of Herculaneum, buried under a blanket of ashes, lapilli and mud during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79, together with Pompeii, Stabiae and Oplonti. Found by chance following the excavations for the construction of a well in 1709, the archaeological investigations in Herculaneum began in 1738 and continued until 1765; resumed in 1823, they were interrupted again in 1875, until a systematic excavation from 1927: most of the finds found are housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, while the birth of the virtual archaeological museum that shows the city before the eruption of Vesuvius. The site of Herculaneum is visited on average by three hundred thousand tourists every year.
