Department of Eure

Your is a department in the French region Normandy and has the serial number 27. In the north, the département borders on the département Seine-Maritime, in the east to the départements Oise, Val-d'Oise and Yvelines, in the south to the départements Eure-et-Loir and Orne and to the west to the department Calvados.

By plane

The nearest international airports, which are also served directly from German-speaking countries, are Paris-Orly (110 km from Évreux) and Charles de Gaulle (120 km). Even closer is Beauvais Airport (105 km), which is mainly used by low-cost airlines such as Ryanair, but there are no direct flights from D / A / CH.

By train

There are IC stops in Vernon, Gaillon / Aubevoye, Val-de-Reuil (every two hours from Paris-St-Lazare in 45 minutes to a good hour), Évreux and Bernay (seven times a day from Paris-St-Lazare in just under an hour or 1:23 hours) and Verneuil sur Avre (five times a day from Paris-Montparnasse in just over an hour).

The A 13 (Paris – Rouen – Caen) and A 28 (Rouen – Le Mans) motorways run through the department. The N 154 national road (Rouen – Orléans), which is in parts of a motorway-like structure, runs through the prefecture town of Évreux.

The Paris – Rouen cycle route runs through this department, parallel to the Seine, which passes through Giverny, Vernon and Les Andelys, among others.

  • St. Vincent-la-Rivière. The curious St. Vincent-la-Rivière church on the D 170 between Broglie and Courteilles. The interior was painted by the innkeeper and Sunday painter Irial Vets based on Michelangelo's frescoes of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican.
  • House and garden of the impressionist painter Claude Monet, in Giverny. The lush garden inspired the artist to create numerous works, such as the Japanese bridge and the Water lilies-Series.
  • Evreux. Notre-Dame gothic cathedral; Saint-Taurin abbey church with elaborate goldsmith work from the 13th century; Bishopric; Belfry / clock tower; representative town hall from the 19th century; pretty city theater (around 1900).
  • Vernon. Old mill hanging on a ruined bridge over the Seine.
