The ascents are carried out in the spring period before the start of the summer monsoon. During this period there is also a change in the jet stream which causes a reduction in the average wind speed in the high mountains. Sometimes attempts are made to climb in the period following the summer monsoon but the presence of snow represents a significant obstacle.
Everest peak has become a frequent destination for commercial expeditions since the 1980s. The number of climbers who conquer the summit has increased significantly. The disadvantage of this standardization of Everest climbing is environmental pollution from base camps. The number of accidents, often fatal, has also increased proportionally.
