The Falkland Islands is a group of islands east of Argentina. The islands are an overseas territory of the United Kingdom and are inhabited for the vast majority by British.
Info
The Falklands have a distinctly British character and somewhat exude the old-fashioned atmosphere of an English village in the 1950s. They are sometimes referred to as 'England with Penguins'. Argentina has long claimed the Malvinas, but that claim is pretty hopeless: in referendums the population has repeatedly voted by a large majority to remain part of the United Kingdom. This is not surprising: hardly any Argentinians live there. Falkland is extremely English and extremely patriotic.

Arrive
A trip to the Falklands is expensive. You can fly there from the UK or alternatively take a cruise ship. From South America you must from Chili to fly; Due to the dispute between the United Kingdom and Argentina, there are no direct connections between Argentina and the Falklands.
Passport and visa
To visit the Falklands, Britons and residents of the Benelux only need a valid passport. However, the RAF flight requires a stopover on the island Ascension in the Atlantic Ocean, and this island requires a visa. As a result, anyone who does not have a visa for Ascension will not be allowed on a flight to the Falklands from the United Kingdom.
By plane
From Europe, the Falklands can be reached with the civilian service of the Royal Air Force, the British air force. This one flies twice a week from base Brize Norton in Oxfordshire and makes a stopover at Ascension. This is anything but cheap: the prices for a return ticket in 2019 are £2,222 per person. If requested, you must be able to demonstrate that you have booked a return flight or that you have sufficient resources for the duration of your stay on the archipelago. These flights can be booked by email or telephone through the Falklands Government Delegation in London. Online reservation is not possible.
