King Shaka International Airport

The King Shaka International Airport is located 35 km north of the city Durban, near LaMercy.

background

Check-in hall

The airport was inaugurated on May 1st, 2010 and named after the famous Zulu chief Shaka ka Senzangakhona (1787-1828) named. It is currently handling up to 7.5 million passengers, even if this mark is unlikely to be reached in the next few years.

getting there

The airport can be reached by car via the national road N2 (Symbol: AS 195), whereby you have to pay a toll fee. Alternatively, you can also use the toll-free R102 between use. A total of 6,500 parking spaces are available and in the driveway of the terminal, at the level of the international arrivals area, is the stop for shuttle buses to Durban and taxis. At the moment there is no direct rail connection, but this will probably change with future expansion stages.

Airlines and Destinations

All airlines in the country fly to the new airport King Shaka and connect it to all major cities in the country and Maputo in Mozambique. In addition to Air Mauritius, Emirates has also been flying to Durban for some time, currently the second international airline. Unfortunately there are no more flights to Manzini in Eswatini - the route was discontinued some time ago.

The only terminal is spacious and offers enough space for 52 shops with 6,500 m2 of sales area. These are mainly located on the lower of the two levels, which is otherwise used for arrivals, where customs control and baggage claim belts are also located. There is an escalator higher to the exit. The upper level is used for departures and on it are the check-in counters (including self-check-in machines) and airline offices.
