Franconia - historical land in the south Germany.
Today Franconia is part of Bavaria (three registries: upper, Median and Lower Franconia), Baden-Württemberg (Heilbronn-Franken region) and Thuringia (Schmalkalden-Meiningen, Hildburghausen, Sonneberg, Wartburg counties). The largest cities of Franconia are Nuremberg, Würzburg, Fürth, Erlangen, Bamberg and Bayreuth.
In the Middle Ages, Franconia was one of the five German principalities, along with Saxony, Lorraine, Swabia and Bavaria.
