Geography
Bavaria borders on Austria, Czechs and Switzerland and the federal states Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, Thuringia and Saxony.
The longest rivers are Altmühl, Danube, Inn, Izara, Lech, Men, Pegnitz, Regen, Regnitz, Rednitz, Vils and Wertach.
The longest channels are Rhine-Main-Danube Canal and Ludwik Dunaj-Main Canal.
The largest lakes are Lake Constance, Ammersee, Chiemsee and Starnberger See and lake districts Fränkisches Seenland.
The highest ascent is Zugspitze (2,963 m).
Climate
Moderate. Warmer in the north Franconia in the basin Menu than in the south Old Bavaria above Alps.
History
The history of Bavaria goes back to Roman times. The oldest cities in Germany are the former Roman colonies: Augsburg, Kempten, Füssen, Weißenburg in Bayern and Regensburg.
