Gaienhofen is a municipality in the south Baden-Württemberg, on the west bank of Lake Constance. These include the districts of Gaienhofen, Horn and Hemmenhofen.

Gaienhofen is located on the Höri peninsula, which is surrounded in the north, east and west by the Untersee of Lake Constance. During the Nazi era - because of its proximity to neutral Switzerland, but also its scenic beauty - the Höri became the domicile of a number of important, then modern artists and remained so after the end of the war in the 1950s. Hermann Hesse, Ludwig Finckh, Helmuth Macke, Walter Kaesbach, Max Ackermann, Erich Heckel and Hans Kindermann lived and worked here. They are also called the circle of Höri artist summarized.

By train

The closest train station on the German side is 11 km away Radolfzell. From there you can take the 7368 bus to Gaienhofen in around 20 minutes. The Swiss train station is about as far Stone at the Rhein away, but the bus connection from the local train station is a bit more uncomfortable.

By bus

The company's "Höribus" line 7368 Südbadenbus runs Mon-Fri every hour, during rush hour in the morning and in the afternoon even every half hour from Radolfzell in one, as well Stone at the Rhein and Öhningen in the other direction to Gaienhofen. At the weekend there is an hourly service during the day, the bus only runs every two hours in the evening. There are stops in the municipality Horn Hirschen, Horn campsite Abzw., Gaienhofen town hall / guest office, Gaienhofen Castle and Hemmenhofen-Fischersteig. In the street

From the Hegau junction (A 81 / A 98) you can take the highway B 33 to the junction Singing / taillings drive, there change to the B 34 direction Singen and finally on country roads via Moos to Gaienhofen.

By boat

Gaienhofen and Hemmenhofen each have a feeder for the BSB-Ferry line Kreuzlingen – Konstanz – Reichenau – Steckborn – Stein am Rhein – Schaffhausen (and back). This runs four times a day during the summer season (late June to early September); in spring and autumn (May 1 to October 1) only three times a day Thu – Sat, four times a day on Sundays and public holidays. The crossing from Steckborn in Switzerland to Gaienhofen or Hemmenhofen takes 6 minutes each, the journey from Reichenau to Gaienhofen just under half an hour, from Stein am Rhein 55 minutes, from Constance 1:20 hours, from Schaffhausen three hours.

The Höri ferry also operates (MS Starfish) from May 1st to the end of June on Sundays and public holidays, from the end of June to the beginning of September Tue, Thu and Sun three times a day between Horn, Gaienhofen and the opposing Swiss towns of Berlingen and Steckborn. The crossing from Steckborn to Gaienhofen takes 5–10 minutes, and from Berlingen to Gaienhofen or Horn it takes 15 minutes each. A single ticket costs € 5 for adults and € 3 for children.

By bicycle

The lead through Gaienhofen Lake Constance cycle path and the Rhine Valley Path, which are also part of the Germany route D 6 and the EuroVelo route 6, thus also a connection to the Danube Cycle Path Offer. From Stein am Rhein it is about 11 km to Gaienhofen, from Radolfzell 12 km, from Schaffhausen or Konstanz each 30 km, from Überlingen 39 km, from Friedrichshafen 71 km.
