The small town of Gol is the administrative seat of the municipality of the same name and a hub for transport connections in Hallingdal. Along with Geilo, the place is one of the most important winter sports locations in southern Norway, also due to its easy accessibility from Oslo.
Gol stave church, which was due to be demolished in the 1870s, was dismantled with the assistance of King Oscar II and rebuilt in his private collection of old Norwegian buildings on the Bygdøy peninsula in Oslo. It is there today as part of the Norsk Folk Museum to visit.

Fagernes Airport offers connections all year round Oslo Gardermoen, in the winter sports season too London Gatwick. Of Fagernes it is about 50 km on the road (Fv51). The journey from Fagernes Airport by public transport: Bus to Gol.
By train
There are connections to Gol up to five times a day Oslo and Mountains with the Bergen Railway. Travel time Oslo - Gol approx. 2 hours, 40 minutes.

In the street
Gol can be reached on the Rv 7 from direction Oslo (190 km) about Hønefoss and Nesbyen, on the Rv 52 Lærdal in about 100 km Fagernes on the Fv 51 in about 50 km and off Geilo on the Rv 7 also in about 50 km.

Gol is an elongated place, so it takes a while to walk across the place. Drivers will find plenty of parking spaces right in front of the shops on Sentrumsvegen, the central shopping street.

- One comes from Gol with the Bergen Railway to Finse in the middle of the northern Hardangervidda for hiking or for a mountain bike tour on the Rallarvegen. Alternatively, you can drive by car on the Rv7 bis Haugastøl and can leave the car there to get to Hardangervidda on foot, by train or by bike. Travel time by train Gol - Finse approx. 80 minutes, Gol - Haugastøl approx. 55 minutes.
