The small town of Gol is the administrative seat of the municipality of the same name and a hub for transport connections in Hallingdal. Along with Geilo, the place is one of the most important winter sports locations in southern Norway, also due to its easy accessibility from Oslo.

Gol stave church, which was due to be demolished in the 1870s, was dismantled with the assistance of King Oscar II and rebuilt in his private collection of old Norwegian buildings on the Bygdøy peninsula in Oslo. It is there today as part of the Norsk Folk Museum to visit.

By plane

  • One comes from Gol with the Bergen Railway to Finse in the middle of the northern Hardangervidda for hiking or for a mountain bike tour on the Rallarvegen. Alternatively, you can drive by car on the Rv7 bis Haugastøl and can leave the car there to get to Hardangervidda on foot, by train or by bike. Travel time by train Gol - Finse approx. 80 minutes, Gol - Haugastøl approx. 55 minutes.
