Just outside Guardia Vomano, the church of San Clemente has the appearance it was given in the first half of the 13th century, when it was completely renovated. Its birth, however, is more remote, as tradition recalls that the building was commissioned by Ermengarda, daughter of Ludovico II Imperatore, between 870 and 890. In the 12th century the Abbey of San Clemente, with the adjoining monastery, was part of the Abbey of San Clemente a Casauria.

In the façade of the church, simple, gabled, the portal stands out which is inserted in the Abruzzese style of the portals of San Liberatore alla Maiella, Santa Maria in Valle Porclaneta, Santa Maria Assunta a Bominaco, San Pietro ad Oratorium a Capestrano, all works that are linked in turn to the basilica of Montecassino. The interior with three naves divided by pillars ends with three apses. The sculptures are by Ruggiero and his son Roberto: the capitals have various shapes and depict plants and animals. The masterpiece of the church is however the ciborium, made by the same sculptors between 1136 and 1147; placed on the altar according to the use of early Christian churches, it has remarkable animal and human sculptures and protomes. Under the ciborium is theancient altar of stone and various rare marbles, carved in bas-relief with a valuable representation of the sacrificial lamb.newsstand shows fourteenth-century frescoes and a fragment of thirteenth-century fresco. A valuable polychrome wooden sculpture from the early fourteenth century depicts San Clemente Pope. Now the building serves as a cemetery church, and can be visited by contacting the caretaker in via S. Clemente n. 10, 30 meters from the church, in the direction of Guardia Vomano.

Just below the highest part of the village, in an open space, the church has a single nave, a simple facade finished with a curvilinear tympanum, a high brick bell tower surmounted by a spire.A domed roof rises at the intersection of the transept and of the nave. The building was built in 1527; its current appearance, however, dates back to the eighteenth-century reconstruction.
