Hohenstein-Ernstthal is a city in the west of the state Saxony. It is the birthplace of the writer Karl May.

By train

Hohenstein-Ernstthal is on the railway line DresdenZwickau and at the A4. The junction is called Symbol: AS 65 Hohenstein-Ernstthal. The best way to reach the city from the east is via the junction Symbol: AS 66 Desert fire.

In the street

Relevant highways are those B173ChemnitzZwickau and the B180StollbergAltenburg. Both streets cross south of the city, in Oberlungwitz.

The Bayreuth-Chemnitz cycle path leads through the city.

The motorsport racetrack can be found in Hohenstein-Ernstthal Sachsenring. The motorcycle world championship has been held here every year since 1998.

At the Oberwald reservoir, north of the Hohenstein-Ernstthal junction of the A 4, is the Karl May stage, also the western town "Charlytown" and an Indian village.
