In 1767 Meinberg was officially named "Curort" by a decree of the Count von Lippe, that year 413 guests were counted. The historic spa park was laid out in 1770. In the same year the logierhaus Stern (today a hotel) was built.

The health resort of Bad Meinberg, from which one could live well in the post-war period, was hit hard by the health "reforms" of the last two decades, the economy of the place, which has been one-sidedly dependent on health resort guests for centuries, is down. During the day it is often so quiet on the streets that one expects thorn bushes to be blown through a ghost town by the howling wind, as in a bad western.

The spa of the sulfur moor and the mineral springs (Bad Meinberger mineral fountain) has been controlling the city since 2015 New Staatsbad Meinberg GmbH.
