Hundwil is a village in appenzeller Hinterland in Eastern Switzerland. Hundwil is known as a former parish town.
background
The village of Hundwil was known as the location of the Appenzell Ausserrhodische Landsgemeinde, which is held every second year. The Schwägalp and part of the Säntis summit is located in the municipality of Hundwiler, but the Hundwiler Höchi is most often associated with the municipality. On the foothills of the Alps, Marlies Schoch, the landlady and non-party politician, is probably the best-known Hundwiler.
history
Hundwil was first mentioned as "Huntwilare" in 921 on a land exchange deed. In the 14th century the Hundwil church is raised to a parish church, the place becomes the main town of a Rhode with tax and court administration. In 1524 the Kirchhöri von Hundwil decided to adopt the Reformed faith, and on June 2, 1597, the Reformed Outer Rhodes decided to divide the land in the canton.
Like the rest of the Appenzellerland, Hundwil also comes in the 17th and 18th centuries. Century through linen weaving and embroidery to a certain degree of prosperity, it was not until 1860 that the place became more accessible with the construction of the Mittellandstrasse, and in 1925 the first concrete bridge spanned the Hundwiler Tobel.
In 1989 the Landsgemeinde in Hundwil decided to introduce cantonal women's suffrage, the last Landsgemeinde held in Hundwil as early as 1997 and from then on, decisions on cantonal matters were made at the ballot box.

The nearest international airport is that of 1 Zurich-Kloten, Hundwil can be reached in around one and a half hours by train and post bus.
By train / by bus
The closest train station is that of 2 Herisau. The S-Bahn St.Gallen represents on the standard gauge line of the Southeast Railway the connection between Herisau and St. Gallen for sure. With trains of the Appenzell Railways one arrives from Zurich coming here on the line Gossau - Herisau to the starting point of the post bus line Hundwil.
The Postbus-Line runs every hour from Herisau via Hundwil and stone via Niederteufen St. Gallen.

The main road connection is the main road 463 of Herisau above Hundwil and further than 459 to Appenzell. The main road 463 leads from Hundwil above stone and Niederteufen after St. Gallen.

Tourist Attractions
- 1 the Reformed Church Hundwil was probably in the 13th century. Built in the late Romanesque style and later redesigned in the Gothic style, frescoes from this era have been preserved. Around 1750 the church was redesigned by the architects Jakob and Johann Ulrich Grubenmann from Teufen and the tower was rebuilt in 1894.
- the Villagescape with a well-preserved row of houses on Dorfstrasse, with geranium decorations in summer. The large undeveloped meadow in front of the church in the center of the village is the meadow on the Landsgemeindeplatz, on it the Landsgemeinde was held until 1997 in the odd years. The chair (Tribune for the government) was always on the main road, the voice cloud on the meadow up to the hill to the southwest.
