Invercargill is at the confluence of the Oreti River and the Foveaux Strait in the region Southland. It is the southernmost city in New Zealand.

By plane
There are connections with Air New Zealand to Christchurch and Wellington and with Stewart Island Flights to Stewart Island.By train
At the moment only goods are transported on the railway line.
In the street
Invercargill is on SH 1, which crosses all of New Zealand. The SH 6 is also an important road connection, it comes from the West coast above Queenstown and Lumsden. The SH 99 goes to Invercargill Tuatapere and on to Te Anau.
