  • 1 Gileppe dam Logo indicating a wikipedia linkLogo indicating a link to the wikidata element – Accessible, without assistance, to people with reduced mobilityPanorama Built between 1867 and 1875, this gravity dam is the second concrete dam built in Europe and one of its oldest artificial lakes. Coupled with the Vesdre dam, it supplies drinking water to the same regions as this one. Her height is 68 meters away and its crest length is 2,500 meters. The water turbines produce the electricity needed for the dam complex and the excess is sold to the public distribution network. On the left, in the downstream direction, is built a panoramic tower of 77.6 meters high with restaurant at the top as well as, a little further downstream at the end of the car park, a belvedere. In the middle of the ridge road is erected the “Lion of Gileppe”, a monumental lion in soft sandstone of 13.5 meters tall and weighing 300 tons which fixes the old Prussian border, distant about 5 kilometers at the time of the construction of the dam. For the record, the 183 blocks that make up this lion-puzzle were completely dismantled and reassembled when the dam was raised by 10 meters between 1967 and 1971. The lake, with an area of 130 hectares, does not authorize, apart from fishing, any nautical or aquatic activity.

Of a circumference, measured in To 1.3 meter of height, of 3.79 meters and of unknown height, this beech (Fagus sylvatica) is invoked, in addition to the classic toothaches and skin diseases, for the success of a pilgrimage. Former place of execution, the "gallows of Jalhay", this tree replaces, in popular devotion, an older tree having had the same function but felled at the end of the XVIIIe century by the French. • 4 Baraque Michel Logo indicating a wikipedia linkLogo indicating a link to the wikidata elementNOT68 – Third highest point in Belgium and the Ardennes massif at 674 meters. It is also the starting point for several hiking trails in the Hautes-Fagnes. Built between 1811 and 1813 by a man named Michel Schmitz, the building was already used as an inn but also as a refuge for lost travelers: a bell was rung there in foggy weather, which allowed the rescue of more than a hundred people. Although already located in Belgian territory before 1919, the establishment also served as a staging post for the Prussian mailboxes which connected Eupen To Malmedy.
  • 5 Fischbach Chapel Logo indicating a wikipedia linkLogo indicating a link to the wikidata element (about 80 meters to the left of Baraque Michel at the start of the Vecquée) – Dedicated to Notre-Dame de Bon Secours, it was erected between 1830 and 1831 by the knight Henri-Toussaint Fischbach in thanks for the rescue of his father-in-law, lost on the fagnard moor around 1819, by the keeper of the Baraque Michel. Its construction is also and above all the first act of the foundation of an establishment of farmers, planned by the knight; project that never came to fruition.

  • 6 Bridegroom cross Logo indicating a link to the websiteLogo indicating a wikipedia linkLogo indicating a link to the wikidata element (along the Vecque) – Access limited to people with reduced mobility. It is the most famous cross in the Hautes Fagnes. Inaugurated in 1931, it succeeds an older cross put in place at the latest in 1906 and currently preserved in the Museum of Archeology and Folklore from Verviers. It commemorates the memory of two young engaged couples, François and Marie, caught in a snowstorm on on their way from Jalhay to Xhoffraix in order to obtain the necessary documents for their marriage. The cross is erected on the spot where, two months later, the body of Mary was discovered, covered with the mantle of her fiancé, whose mortal remains were found two kilometers away while he was trying to seek help. The cross bears the inscription « RIP in memory of the fiances FRANCOIS REIFF from Bastogne and MARIE JOSEPHE SOLHEID from Xhoffraix who died in the snow in January 1871 ». Still today, it is not uncommon for passers-by, especially lovers, to hang a few sprigs of heather (Calluna vulgaris) at the cross and meditate there for a moment.
