The small town Kemberg lies on the northern edge of the Dübener Heide in the eastern Saxony-Anhalt. Lignite was mined near Kemberg until 1955.

The next railway stop is 6 km away in Bergwitz on the Berlin – Leipzig / Halle railway line. S-Bahn trains of the Central German S-Bahn run every hour from Halle, Leipzig and Lutherstadt Wittenberg, with every second connection from Halle and Leipzig in Bitterfeld have to change.

Operation on the branch line from Bergwitz to Kemberg was stopped as early as 1951.
