Bitterfeld is lying in Central German chemistry triangle in Saxony-Anhalt. It has been administrative with the neighboring city since July 1, 2007 Wolfen as well as other until then independent municipalities Bitterfeld-Wolfen, the statistically fourth largest city in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
