Delitzsch is a city in the Leipzig lowland bay, in the northwest of Saxony. It is north of Leipzig and east of Hall. The city has a very well-preserved old town with a surrounding fortification from the 14th / 15th centuries. Century. The urban area and its surroundings are characterized by extensive water, hiking and cycling networks as well as nature reserves, which make the Delitzscher area an attractive sports and leisure center.

background

Delitzsch first belonged to the diocese of Merseburg; after the division of Saxony it came to the Albertine line and later to the house of Saxony-Merseburg. The castle was damaged in the Thirty Years' War, but restored in 1691 and made the widow's seat of that princely house. After the latter died out (1738), Delitzsch fell to Electoral Saxony and became Prussian in 1815. Since 1990 the city has belonged to Saxony again. Delitzsch is the birthplace of the biologist Ehrenberg (1795-1876) and Schulze-Delitzsch (1808-1883), founder of the cooperatives in Germany.

Map of Delitzsch

In the street

Bottlenecks are rather rare, but on weekdays there can sometimes be an increased volume of traffic on certain routes, especially in the morning hours, due to the commuter and school traffic. Since the city is comparatively small, many routes can also be covered by foot and bicycle. That is why you should pay attention to cyclists especially in the city center. By bicycle

The city and its very green surroundings can be explored once by bike, so it is becoming increasingly popular and is a good alternative to car and bus, especially in the warm season.
