Kokkino Nero (Κόκκινο Νερό) is a small seaside resort on the Thermaic Gulf in Thessaly. As a district, this settlement at the foot of the Ossa massif is similar to the neighboring one Stomio to the southwestern municipality Agia.

background

The little place Kokkino Nero is located on the Thermaic Gulf, on the east coast of Thessaly. If the place is described in an older travel guide as being accessible only on a gravel road and with the exception of a tavern practically lacking infrastructure, the renewal of the access road, which from Stomio above Kokkino Nero and further after Velika - Kato Sotiritsa - Agiokampos the accessibility and also the popularity with (bathing) tourists greatly improved.

There are some newly built holiday flats and apartment houses in the village, and it is particularly noticeable how often Polish is spoken here - apparently there is also Polish-speaking Greeks a particularly intensive exchange.

In the summer months, according to the notice, between Larisa - Paliouria - Kokkino and Nero Karitsa A bus service runs four times a day in both directions, the coastal towns are popular excursion destinations for bathers from the provincial capital Larisa.

In the street

From the toll motorway Thessaloniki - Athens, which in the area of the passage through the Tempi valley (along the Pineios) and around the castle of Platamonas is still led as a two-lane main road (motorway under construction) branches off the 2 Branch road - StomioMain road in the direction Stomio - Kokkino Nero - Agiokampo from, coming from the north immediately behind the bridge over the Pineios.

Coming from the south, it is recommended to come from Larisa from over Agia and Agiokampos; the also signposted approach from Larisa above Sykurio - Spilia leads over a pass over the Ossa massif towards Karitsa, shortly after the top of the pass, the expansion is finished and a forest road with few crossroads leads to the coast after a winding drive (not necessarily suitable for mobile homes and travelers in a hurry ...).
The modern coastal road bypasses the place on the slope side, the former main road runs past the mineral spring to the place, a cul-de-sac from there to the beach.

By boat

Only small pleasure boats with outboard motors can land on the shallow pebble / sand beach.

mobility

Locally one moves on foot. Parking facilities exist in the shady stream bed of the torrent, which dries out in the summer, and which swells when it rains in the winter.
