Koenigsbrück is a small town in Saxony and is nicknamed "Gate to West Lusatia" and "Camellia town on the Via Regia".
The adjacent nature reserve Königsbrücker Heide was created on a former military training area and with an area of almost 70km² is one of the largest in Germany.
background
Königsbrück is first mentioned in a document in 1248. At that time the place arose around a border fortress between the Mark Meissen and the Bohemian Upper Lusatia. In 1331 the village received town charter. As a border town on the Via Regia the city could develop.
In 1819 the first savings bank in Saxony was founded in the city.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Königsbrück became a military base. A flight physiology training center still exists on the outskirts of the city today.
getting there
By plane
The closest airport is Dresden (IATA code: DRS; 50 km, approx. 40 min by train)
By train
With the hourly regional train (RB33), Königsbrück can be reached from Dresden within 40 minutes. However, it is strongly recommended to find out about possible (frequently occurring) Timetable changes to inform. The journey itself is unicum due to the dilapidated route, as the railcars used go step by step and draw attention to themselves at the numerous unrestricted level crossings with their horns. However, modernization has been promised.
The city center is within walking distance from the train station (sometimes poor road conditions, not handicapped accessible).
By bus
Most of the surrounding towns can be reached by bus. Long-distance buses do not go to the city. There is a bus seat at the train station, but not all lines serve this at all times of the day. It is worth taking a look at the timetable.
In the street
Königsbrück is on the federal highway 97, which leads from the Autobahn 4 (Hermsdorf (83)) to Hoyerswerda. From the Autobahn 13 you can get from the exit Thiendorf (20) on the federal road 98 to Königsbrück.
mobility
Königsbrück is served by a number of regional bus routes. The central bus station is located directly at the train station.
