Pulsnitz is a small town on the western edge of Upper Lusatia and is known as the gingerbread town.
background
In 1375, Pulsnitz was granted town charter by Emperor Karl IV. But already before 1200 there was a moated castle with a settlement on the Polzenberg.
Pulsnitz owes its epithet gingerbread town to the numerous gingerbread factories in the city area. Of what were once several dozen, nine are still in operation. For the first time, the Pulsnitz bakers were given the right to bake gingerbread on January 1, 1558.
Pulsnitz is also known for its blueprint products.
Ernst Friedrich August Rietschel was one of the city's most famous sons. The important sculptor of late classicism created, among other things, the Lessing monument in Braunschweig and the Goethe-Schiller monument in Weimar.
