Understand
Baie-des-Chaleurs is the region comprising the South of the Gaspé Peninsula bordering the Baie des Chaleurs which is part of the prestigious club of the most beautiful bays in the world. Baie des Chaleurs has the second longest natural strip of sand in the world. The region spans a little over 100 km and is divided into two regional county municipalities (MRC): Avignon and Bonaventure. The territory includes mountains, the boreal forest, numerous rivers, farmland and, of course, the shores of the bay.
In fact, Chaleur Bay is an arm of the Gulf of St.Lawrence separating the Gaspé Peninsula from New Brunswick. Before the arrival of the Europeans, the Mi'kmaq already used this body of water for fishing and called it "Moweaktabaak ", Which means" big bay ", or"Maoi Pôgtapai ", Which means" the bay par excellence ".
