Geographical notes
La Rochelle is located 480 km from Paris, on the Atlantic Ocean and is home to an important port. The protection of the islands in front of the city have always favored the peaceful landing of ships even in bad weather.
While fishing has always remained artisanal, the tertiary sector has increasingly evolved, hand in hand with the progressive loss of importance of the port itself.
Since 1988 a bridge has linked the mainland to the island of Ré.
