the Serre-Ponçon lake is a lake of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'AzurHigh mountains in France.

Understand

Lake Serre-Ponçon is an artificial lake located in the south of the French Alps, straddling the departments of High mountains and Alpes de Haute Provence. It was created in 1959 by the construction of a hydroelectric dam on the Durance, two kilometers downstream from its confluence with the Ubaye. The establishment of the lake required the displacement of more than a thousand people and the destruction of more than 400 buildings. Two villages disappear under the water, Savines and Ubaye, the latter not being rebuilt.

To go

Lake Serre-Ponçon is accessible by the national road N94, since Gap Where Embrun, as well as the departmental road D4, since Tallard. The tour of the lake can be done by car, via several departmental roads.
