How to get
By plane
- 1 Nea Anchialos State Airport (IATA: VOL) (70 km from Larissa).
Thessaloniki Airport is 180km further north. Once you get off the plane you will have to go to the train station (on the other side of the center) from where suburban trains leave for Larissa. The intercity bus station is a couple of kilometers further west.
The airport of Athens it is about 350 km further south.
On the train
- 2 Larissa station. The station is on the main line of the country from Athens to Thessaloniki with extension to the Bulgarian border (Evzoni).
- Larissa station is also the terminus of the line coming from Volos, traveled by suburban trains.
By bus
Larissa has more than one intercity bus station:

- 6 Tempe Valley (Κοιλάδα των Τεμπών) (30 km in less than half an hour) - Famous valley where all the land invaders from the north passed, from antiquity to the 15th century. There Tempe Valley in fact it constituted an obligatory passage between the Ossa and Olimpo mountains.
- The valley, carved out by the river Peneo, is 10 km long and in some points narrows to form real gorges embedded between sheer walls 500 m high.
- 7 Delta of the Peneus River - After crossing the Tempe Valley, the Peneus River flows into the Aegean Sea with a branched delta, interspersed with marshes and ponds bordered by rich vegetation. More and more tourists are coming from the nearby beaches of the Pieria and lovers of birdwatching who ask the fishermen of the nearby village of Stomio to take them for a walk around the delta with their boats.

The best excursions that can be done from Larissa are those in the direction of the stretch of coast between Ossa and Monte Peleo. Some tourists rather than reside in a hotel on the surface of the water prefer to choose accommodation in Skiti, a traditional village that forms a balcony overlooking the sea.
- 8 Skiti (Σκήτη) - Traditional village with beautiful views of the coast below. It also serves as a base for excursions to Mount Kissavos (ancient Mount Ossa. Some of the old houses in Skiti have been converted into tourist lodgings (Xenones). The best "xenonas"of Skiti to 2020 was Eos. There are also agrotourism. About 1 kilometer northwest of Skiti, (on the new road leading from Larissa to Agiokampos) is the monastery of Mount Kelli, called Santi Anargiroi whose visit should not be missed. The monastery includes the cells of the anchorites carved into the rock and a fresco made between the twelfth and sixteenth centuries.
- 9 Aghiokambos - Small seaside resort considered the Larissa beach. It has a very large beach. There are other centers around it.
- 10 Metaxochori (Μεταξοχώρι) - Pretty village with traditional stone streets and houses. It is located at the foot of Mount Kissavos between green landscapes and a myriad of streams which in the past favored the rise of numerous silk factories, hence the name. Metaxochori in fact means the village of silk. Today the traditional cultivation of fruit trees has been preserved. Metaxochori is in fact famous throughout Greece for the production of apples but also of cherries with an exquisite taste.
- 11 Kissavos
- The ancient Monte Ossa, 1978 meters high located between the mount Pelio and Mount Olympus. An asphalted road stops at Kanalos at an altitude of 1,604 meters. In Kanalos there is a refuge of the Larissa Alpine Club, renowned for being one of the best in Greece with the characteristics of a real hotel. From the refuge you can continue on foot up to the "Profitis Ilias" peak of 1.978m. The summit is so called due to the presence of a chapel which in winter appears buried by snow except for the flag that flies on the roof. use snowboard for the return to the Kanalos refuge.

- 12 Volos (63 km in less than 3/4 of an hour) - Major port of Thessaly, Volos it is also the base for excursions to the Monte Peleo.
