The community Les Houches is west of the Mont Blanc in the department Haute-Savoie in the French Alps. The recognized resort is the starting point for hikes in the surrounding mountains in summer and the most important starting point for climbing Mont Blanc on the normal route; in winter there is a ski area.

Les Houches is located in the valley floor of the Chamonix valley and around 7 kilometers west of Chamonix.

Les Houches train station is on the St Gervais - Le Fayet / Vallorcine line Martigny (CH).

In the street
Les Houches has its own exit on the busy expressway E25 ("Route Blanche") from Italy and coming from the Mont Blanc tunnel through the Chamonix valley.
- Of north from Switzerland (Valais) and from Germany: through the Rhone Valley to Martigny and over the less pronounced mountain pass Col des Montets (1,461 m) to Chamonix and then a few more kilometers on the "Route Blanche" expressway from the Mont Blanc tunnel (Italy) to Les Houches.
- Of south (Italy) through the Aosta Valley to Courmayeur on the southeast side of Mont Blanc and then through the Mont Blanc tunnel and on the route a few kilometers further to Les Houches.

With around 11,000 guest beds, the town lives mainly from tourism, but it is somewhat overshadowed by the even more prominent neighboring town Chamonix: Les Houches is a bit more familiar, the hotel buildings are not quite that big yet.

The two campsites are popular base and depot stations for multi-day tours in the region and are significantly cheaper than a hotel room.
