Lovina is a city on the island of Bali, in Indonesia.

To know

Lovina is a quiet seaside town located on the north coast of Bali, 5km west of Singaraja. The main street Jalan Raya Singaraja runs through the city parallel to the coast, is noisy and is full of badly reduced sidewalks. The name is quite recent and was coined in the 1950s by a regent officer Buleleng with a good eye for tourism development. It is a group of traditional villages along a 10km road that hugs the north coast to West Singaraja: Temukus, Kalibukbuk, Anturan, Pemaron, Tukad Mungga, Banyualit and Kaliasem.Kalibukuk is the main center of this area and is often referred to as the center of Lovina.

The coast is bordered by narrow black sand beaches accessible by a multitude of small streets perpendicular to the coastal road. It is generally a safe place for bathing and the waters are relatively calm.

Scuba diving, snorkelling and dolphin watching here are the main activities in addition to doing nothing in full relaxation, taking it easy. In July and August it can get busier, but outside of the high season this is a quiet area on the island.

Although there are many cafes, some of them do not sell coffee or sandwiches, but expensive alcohol and loud music. Many of the girls who work here have relationships with customers even after opening hours. It is therefore not uncommon to see elderly Western gentlemen in the company of very young local girls who behave like short-term girlfriends during the tourist's stay.

How to orient yourself

In demo

Long-distance bemos are a bit of a challenge, but a good option for travelers on a budget. Lovina can be reached from all over Bali, always passing through Singaraja.

By taxi

A prepaid taxi from the airport costs around Rp 450,000 and takes 3 hours.

How to get around

An ideal place for walking because the roads are quiet and the beaches are long and easy to cross.

You can also rent a bike easily. Many hotels provide this service. It must be borne in mind that off the coast road there are many steep hills.

The best way to visit the surrounding areas of Lovina is on a motorbike. There are many rentals and prices vary between Rp 50,000 and Rp 90,000 per day. The roads are in good condition and there is not as much traffic as in the south of Bali.

Local bemos go back and forth between Singaraia and West Bali stopping everywhere in Lovina. You have to be patient as they can be full, costing around Rp 5,000 each way.

What see

The black sand beaches they are beautiful and can be easily explored on foot. The sea is calm and safe for swimming. The feeling you get on these beaches is one of absolute calm with very colorful traditional fish ponds here and there along the coast, reminding us that we are in a fishing community. There are some hookers, but not as much in the south. During high tide some beaches are a little more difficult to cross in some places, so it is recommended to walk during low tide. However, many are dirty and full of plastic, a plague of modern times.

The small road leading to the beach from the main road in Kalibukuk is called Jalan Bina Ria and on the beach side there is a dolphin statue. As well as being a great example of kitchy, jawless art, it's a reminder of why tourism developed in Lovina. In the area there are many wooden figurines for sale as souvenirs, if you are interested in the object.

The structures in which you spend the night offer, even on repetition, daily tourist trips to places where you can spot dolphins, such as the beautiful Munduk to the south, the beaches of Pemuteran to the west and the city of Singaraia to the east, all within easy reach.

A half day trip to Les Village waterfall, where there is a cave with bats and a protected coral area, can be organized, 40km to the east.
