background

As the largest and most easterly side valley of the Surselva that pulls Val Lumnezia (German Lugnez) of Ilanz out to the southwest. The valley community of Lumnezia was created in 2013 through mergers from numerous small mountain villages. A large number of the villages and neighborhoods (Romanesque: vischnauncas) in the valley are in the valley municipality Lumnezia summarized.

The villages are mainly located on south-east terraces west of the still free-flowing Glogn (German Glenner), which drains the valley and is the "back" of the massif of the Piz Mundaun leigen. After the valley was dominated by agriculture over the centuries and was largely able to maintain its character, it only gained importance for tourism as a winter sports resort after the 1970s with the construction of ski lifts. The tourist infrastructure makes the area attractive for families, nature lovers and also single travelers, especially for people who cannot do too much with the uniform mass of ski destinations with XXL slopes and snow bars. Summer tourism is dominated by offers for biking (e-biking), mountain hiking and alpinism. Increasingly, cultural offers and language courses in Romansh for those interested are also being promoted, as there is still a very strong connection to the Romansh language in Lugnez.
