Mantua (Mantova in Italian) is the capital of the province of the same name, in Lombardy, region of the Po plain, in the north ofItaly.
Understand
Mantua is a city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been named “Capital of Italian Culture 2016”. Due to the power and influence of the family of Corradi-Gonzaga, which had owned the city for over 400 years, Mantua was considered one of the most important cultural cities of the Renaissance and it retains many buildings from that era that made it famous. It is also the city where the composer Claudio Monteverdi created his opera L'Orfeo (1607), the first opera still regularly performed today.

By plane
The closest airport to Mantua is Valerio Catullo Airport located near Verona, on the Brenner motorway, just 25 min from the city. The other options are Guglielmo Marconi Airport, near Bologna, To 1 h road, and Orio al serio airport, near Bergamo, accessible in less than an hour and a half by the highway.

By train
The Verona railway line - Modena passes through Mantua. It is also the terminus for trains from Monselice and Cremona. Via Verona you can easily reach cities like Venice, Brescia, Trento, Bolzano and via Modena you can reach Parma, Reggio Emilia, Bologna to all southern cities.
