Verona is a city italian, in the region of Veneto

Understand

The city of Verona is an important tourist destination, visited each year by more than three million people due to numerous international events, but above all for its artistic richness, so that the historic center has been declared the site of Unesco World Heritage .

Verona is an example of a city that has developed gradually and without interruption over more than two thousand years, incorporating artistic elements of the highest value belonging to different periods. It also represents in an exceptional way the concept of a fortified city which developed in several stages.

The city rises along the banks of the river Adige, where it enters the Po Valley and forms a characteristic double meander, about thirty kilometers east of Lake Garda. It is located 59 meters above sea level, at the foot of the hill of San Pietro, the southern appendix of the Lessini mountains.

In ancient times, the city was the hub of all land and sea transport systems in northeastern Italy. In Roman times, it was the meeting point of four consular routes: Via Gallica, Via Claudia Augusta, Vicum Veronensium and Via Postumia. Even today, Verona remains an important geographical junction - road, rail and motorway - at the crossroads of the lines that connect the center and north-west of Italy with the Brenner Pass.

Around

The area around Verona offers access to some of Italy's most spectacular scenery - to the north are hills with vineyards and small towns, to the west the Garda lake (Lago di Garda).

Lake Garda is easily accessible from Verona for a day trip. Buses run by APTV (the regional bus company) depart from Porta Nuova, taking a 62-64 bus in the morning from the train station or Corso Porta Nuova (the boulevard just south of Piazza Bra). It takes about 2-h , depending on the lakeside traffic (which can be loaded), to reach the pretty towns of Malcesine or Torbole. Obtain a timetable at the tourist office or the APTV transport website (Lake Garda is in zone C). Tickets can be purchased at the tobacconist on the road or on the bus. Lake Garda has its own theme park, Gardaland, with accommodation.

Vicenza, Padua, Mantua and of course Venice are the major attractions easily accessible by train from Verona.
