the Garda lake is a glacial lake ofNortheast Italy located south of the Alps straddling the regions of Lombardy, from Trentino Alto Adige and of Veneto and its most important riparian locality is Desenzano del Garda.

Understand

The lake is located at the northern limit of the Po plain, with the northern part extending into the mountains.

The north of the lake seems to be more suitable for people who appreciate a quiet and peaceful vacation. The south has attractions more geared towards mass tourism with a theme park and a few man-made beaches.

Other destinations

To go

By train

Desenzano del Garda and Peschiera del Garda are the closest stations south of the lake. The nearest station to the north is Rovereto.

By bus

The north coast is connected by a number of bus services with Thirty and other destinations in Trentino, including Rovereto station. But also buses from the east and west banks arrive at Riva del Garda, Arco, Nago-Torbole.

The east coast is mainly served by ATV Verona. Buses from Verona to destinations on the lake leave from Porta Nuova station or Corso Porta Nuova (the boulevard just south of Piazza Bra). It takes about 2-h , depending on the lakeside traffic (which can be loaded), to reach the pretty towns of Malcesine or Torbole. Obtain timetables from the tourist office or the ATV website. Tickets can be purchased at a tobacconist on the road or on the bus.

The western bank is covered by Trasporti Brescia. Buses from Brescia to the lake leave from Autostazione SAIA.

A few places in the south could also be reached by bus from Mantua. See the website APAM for more details.

By car

Lake Garda is roughly halfway between Venice and Milan.

Circulate

On a boat

It is perhaps the most convenient form of transportation for destinations along the shores of the lake. Gestione Navigazione Laghi provides regular ferry services. A fast ferry takes approx h and a half to cross the lake from south to north.

A car ferry connects Torri del Benaco on the eastern shore of the lake with Toscolano-Maderno on its western shore. In summer, another ferry connects Malcesine with Limone sul Garda.

Water taxis are also available. Maybe this is a better option than a regular taxi because the latter will cost you more money and it will take longer to travel.

By bike

Bike rental with easy routes is possible all around the lake. The northern part of Lake Garda offers arguably the most spectacular off-road trips in Europe, mostly on the rugged military roads of WWI. Riva del Garda is a good starting point, with routes ranging from the easiest to the most demanding.

Do

Pedal boats are available for hire all around the lake, although there are limits to be observed as you are renting for a period of time.

In Malcesine, take a cable car to Monte Baldo. Beautiful panoramic views and a restaurant await you there. There is a stop halfway for those who do not wish to go all the way to the top. Hiking Trekking Alta via del Monte Baldo

In Bardolino you can visit the wine museum, to see the museum and, of course, to buy wine.

In Sirmione, try the famous sulfur springs or enjoy its beaches.

South of the lake, near Peschiera del Garda, is the large theme park Gardaland. It is a theme park for everyone, whether it is thrill seekers or for children.
