Markdorf is a small town in Baden-Wuerttemberg north of Lake Constance.

Markdorf is located in Linzgau at the foot of the 754 m high Gehrenberg. The place was first mentioned in a document in 817. In the 13th century Markdorf received city rights. From 1414 to 1802 it belonged to the rule of the Constance prince-bishops. In 1802 the city came to Baden. In 1972 the districts of Riedheim and Ittendorf were incorporated, the latter received in 2001 in the competition "Our village should be more beautiful - our village has a future".
