Meersburg is a popular destination. The city is characterized by its idyllic location on Lake Constance and the historic old town with the castle and Meersburg Castle.

getting there

In the street

Meersburg is on the B31 / B33, which runs along the northern shore of Lake Constance from Stockach (A98 / A91) to Ravensburg (B33) and Friedrichshafen (B31) Upper Swabian Baroque Street and at the German half-timbered street.

By train

The next train station is in Salem or Überlingen, whose route leads from Radolfzell to Friedrichshafen.

By bus

The omnibus 7395 from Stahlringen via Meersburg to Friedrichshafen runs through Überlingen.

Alternatively, you can also (see www.bahn.de ) from Konstanz from the port or the city railway station to Meersburg. The bus uses the Staad-Meersburg ferry, you can buy a combined ticket.

By bicycle

By boat

A beautiful footpath with many stairs and a good view leads from the Lower to the Upper City.

Meersburg lies on the slope. There is a height difference of 40 meters between the lower and upper town. The upper town can be reached via Steigstrasse with its beautiful half-timbered houses or via two flights of stairs.

The Old lock was owned by the Bishops of Constance as early as the 13th century and gradually became their preferred residence after 1526. With the secularization of 1803 in the possession of the later Grand Duchy of Baden. In 1838 it was acquired by Joseph Freiherr von Laßberg and has been in private ownership ever since.
Since 1841 the poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff (1797-1848) stayed with her sister Jenny in the old castle, where she died in 1848. The Droste monument was created by Emil Stadelhofer on the 50th anniversary of his death in 1898.

  • Around the market square and in Steingasse there are particularly picturesque houses in the upper town.
  • The 12 town hall was mentioned as early as the 15th century. Extensive renovations were carried out in the 16th and especially in the 18th century. On the initiative of Prince-Bishop Maximilian Christoph von Rodt (1775-1800), a theater hall was set up in 1784, in which performances took place until 1912.
  • The formerly 13 Rot'sche Hof belonged from 1772 to 1803 to the Upper Swabian monastery Rot an der Rot. It was acquired in 1806 by the merchant family Zimmermann, whose most famous family member was the Baden court painter Reinhard Sebastian Zimmermann (1815-1893).
  • The 14 Riding school was laid out in the later 18th century as a riding stables and armory for the prince-bishops on the grounds of the court garden. From 1907 the Meersburg wine-growing domain, today the state winery and Droste-Hülshoff-Gymnasium. Partial demolition and reconstruction according to historical plans in the mid-1960s.

A grocery store is at the beginning of Daisendorfer Straße, on the outskirts of the upper town, near the tourist information and the Kath. Parish church.

Opposite is a Postbank ATM, if you follow Daisendorfer Straße uphill you will find a Sparkasse branch with an ATM.

At the end of Steigstrasse, in front of the Hotel Bären, there is a Volks / Raiffeisenbank with an ATM.

Numerous small shops (bakery, gift shop, bookstore, photo shop, pharmacy) are lined up along the Unterstadtstraße and along the Steigstraße on the way to the Upper Town. On Fridays there is a small weekly market on the market square in front of the town hall.

Almost nonexistent. A little on the bank promenade, the Steigstrasse (each curfew at 23:00 o'clock) and in the "Schickeria" near the upper gate (as far as I know no curfew or a very "early" curfew).

  • Stilt houses in Unteruhldingen - The pile dwelling museum deals with the Stone Age and Bronze Age. It is the oldest open-air museum in Germany. The attraction is the recreated village that stands on poles. As a visitor, you feel as if you have been transported to a different time and you can see how people used to live and live. There used to be over 100 stake villages on Lake Constance with up to 500 inhabitants. · Approx. 5 km from Meersburg.
