What see

  • 1 Parish Church of Santa Maria Maggiore. It seems that the primitive little church of Meduno dates back to the 5th-6th century. It is known that between the 11th and 12th centuries Meduno became the seat of a parish church, which was built precisely in that period.
The building was rebuilt between 1549 and 1566, consecrated in 1571 and restored in the eighteenth century.
The current parish church was built between 1830 and 1834. The church was damaged by the 1976 earthquake and was the subject of a major renovation in 2000. On September 28, 2004 a fire damaged the interior of the building and, therefore , it was necessary to proceed with a rearrangement intervention; it was also necessary to subject the organ to an important cleaning in 2005 and in 2010 the nineteenth-century frescoes on the ceiling were renewed.
Inside it houses a precious monstrance and a beautiful altarpiece by Giovanni Battista Piazzetta dating back to 1744. Church of Santa Maria Maggiore (Meduno) on Wikipedia church of Santa Maria Maggiore (Q66467894) on Wikidata
